Speaker: Ghislain Fourny

Ghislain Fourny is a senior scientist at ETH Zurich with a focus on databases and game theory. He holds a Master of Science in Computer Science and a Doctorate of Science from ETH Zürich.

Ghislain teaches Big Data, Information Retrieval and Information Systems courses for computer scientists as well as non-computer scientists. His research interests cover query languages for large-scale, heterogeneous, nested datasets; rebooting game theory with a non-Nashian form of free choice that drives selfish agents to higher social utility; and building a determinic and non-Nashian extension theory of quantum physics in order to prove Einstein right.

Ghislain was a member of the W3C XML Query working group from 2011 to 2014 and is supporting XBRL Switzerland with the technical aspects of taxonomy design on an honorary basis. He is a co-designer of the JSONiq query language and of the RumbleDB engine. He is also the author of The XBRL Book, which introduces XBRL to technical audiences, and of The Big Data Textbook. Ghislain received, from the students at ETH, the D-INFK 2020 Golden Owl teaching award and the 2022 Credit Suisse Award for Best Teaching.
